Historic Houses

The Vernon Historical Society (VHS) provides signs for Historic Houses. Although VHS doesn't verify the information this is a good method of recognizing our older heritage houses.

This page lists some of the older houses in the Tankerhoosen Valley, which generally predate those in Rockville. Over time we hope to provide more detail on the houses and invite owners to contribute to this section.

1825 Elizur Allen

The Elizur Allen House is located at 21 Old Dobson Road in the former Dobsonville Village. Elizur Allen worked in one of the mills, probably the Dobson Mills, and is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Talcottville.

The house is not archeologically significant but is important because it is the last of the early Dobsonville houses. All the other houses and buildings were destroyed for the highway, its expansion or increased the commercial zone.
